Belfast Success for Farnham Karate Club

Belfast sucessOn a very Snowy day on Friday 6th February members of Farnham Karate Club travelled to Belfast with other members of The England Wado-Kai Karate Squad, an early start in Christmas Card weather to Gatwick Airport flying or not as the case maybe on a day when flying or flight cancellations were in the balance but their faith in the elements proved positive and the Farnham Karate Club members arrived in Belfast to warmer climes than Gatwick an early night in preparation for an early start at The La Salle Gymnasium Sports Complex in Belfast the Venue for the Northern Ireland Karate Tournament, the event was attended by Club and Association Karate Squads from Scotland, Southern Ireland and many from all over the province of Ullster as well as a 25 person Squad from England including the Farnhamb Club Students.

The event started with Kata (Pre-arranged form) and our Farnham members were up for this the frosty start did not diminish their pluck, in the Mens Nico Marengo was successfull to go through all the prelimeries and just missed out in the Semi Final and had to be satisfied with the Bronze Medal, Amanda Holwey was very tenacious in her Senior Female Kata and made it through to the Semi Final and was just nudged in to third place and took the Bronze Medal, Jack Franklin aged 13 a pupil of Kings International School in Park Barn, Guildford who trains in Farnham went through many bouts and proved his worth by taking the Gold for England, Ruby Franklin (Jacks Sister) aged 8 a pupil of Worpleston School was just pipped out of the medal spot as was Tia Southcot also aged 8 a pupil of The Guildford Grove School, both girls are regular attendees at The Farnham Karate Club.

The Kumite Events (Karate Fighting) followed the Kata, Amanda Holwey hard a very good fight in the Knock out bouts and won through to the Semi Final but just lost out and took Bronze whilst her Club mate Jack Franklin battled through but also had to be content with the Silver
Medal spot in the Boys Kumite event a credible achievement with worthy opponents in the final coming up against Craig Ryan a World Karate Medalist, Ruby Franklin won thorugh with great tenacity to reach the final of the Girls Kumite (Fighting) Ruby had a great bout but run out
of time to score the points required and the Silver spot was hers.

In the under 5ft Girls Team Tia Southcott, Ruby Franklin and Samantha Hilton aged 13 from Liphook made up the England under 5ft Girls fighting Team who battled through the preliminaries to acieve a well deserved win in the Semi final to beat the Northern Ireland Team in to third place but were just pipped at the Post by the Scottish Girls Team and had to settle for the Silver Medal spot, the Boys under 5ft was a good test of their metal and the three English Boys George Lee from Southampton with Scott Rawlings (Farnham) and Jack Franklin (Farnham) the English Boys all had good fights but had to settled for the second place and Silver medals all round.

So excellent results for the Farnham Karate Club
